A FAST SELECT CONNECTION-ORIENTED LLC PROTOCOL IN CSMA/CD NETWORKS

This paper presents a new Logical Link Control(LLC)protocol for CSMA/CD networks called Fast Select Connection-Oriented (FS-CO)and evaluates the performance.We develop an approximate analytical model of a network under the slotted nonpersistent CSMA/CD protocol with a priority acknowledgment scheme and the FS-CO-LLC protocol.We also make a perfor malice comparison of the FS-CO-LLC,a connection-oriented (CO)LLC and a connectionless(CL)LLC protocols.The comparison reveals that the FS-CO-LLC always outperforms the CL-LLC and that it performs better than the CO-LLC if the average message length h is not so large compared to the receivebuffer size.We also find that even with large values of h theperformance of the FS-CO-LLC does not degrade so much in comparison with the CO-LLC.
