Transmitting power control in Packet Radio Networks (PRNs) can reduce the interference caused by the sharing of a common radio channel.Sparse topologies obtained by transmitting power control provide high network capacity for packet delivery.The use of directional antennas,multi-channel protocols,or code-division multiple access (CDMA) can further improve throughput performance of sparse topologies.We have formulated the local throughput of PRNs with sparse topologies under these circumstances.We have also used computer simulation to show that (1) the multi-channel operation and together with the use of directional antennas can increase the throughput of sparse PRNs by more than an order of magnitude,and (2)we can obtain comparable throughput performance with fewer codes by assigning codes to edges instead of nodes in CDMA systems.
