Multidimensional coded modulation by assigning code vectors to asignal point

摘要

This paper proposes and investigates a multidimensional codedmodulation system with a new mapping scheme. If several codewords aremapped each to a modulated signal point and distinguishable in decoding,then transmission rate can decrease even for the same code rate. Suchmapping and decoding schemes are described for multidimensional trelliscoded modulation (TCM). It is proposed to use a block error-correctingcode in order to protect supplemental information to distinguishcodewords mapped to the same signal point. This modified system isconsidered as a combined TCM and block coded modulation scheme. BERperformance is improved over the originally proposed scheme
