Recently, the elliptical aperture has been introduced in parabolic reflector antenna applications to supplement conventional circular and rectangular apertures [1]. Since these three apertures and a continuum of others are all comprised by the superelliptical aperture, an investigation of the latter yields results of great generality. Furthermore, whereas the circle is geometrically characterized by one parameter and the ellipse and the rectangle by two, the introduction of the superellipse provides the antenna designer with three adjustable parameters.
