THE DEVELOPMENT STAGES OF INDUSTRIAL MINERALS PROJBCTS OF THE PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ETHIOPIA

This paper is designated to give a comprehensive explanation on the development of various Industrial Minerals and Rocks Projects namely, Ceramics, Micronization, Diatomite and Bentonite, Lakes Soda Ash, Crushed Stone, Gemstone and Non-metallic Sorbents for Agriculture; commercially studied over the last six years by the Ethiopian Mineral Resources Development Corporation (EMRDC). All these projects are on the way to be developed with the exception of crushed stone and gemstone. While the relatively limited exploration in the country has proved several valuable deposits, there is a good reason to believe that future exploration will reveal new economic reserves and mining will be a major industry. Therefore, it is forseen that the considerable potential of industrial minerals to be developed shall boost the contribution of the mining sector to the national economy.
