Surface movement and collapse at Yangxi Kaolin Mine is caused by caving method . This paper studied the principle of surface movement based on long tern observation and research, and also carried on the analysis on stability of upper area in goaf.Yangxi kaolin aine is located on the western side of Yangxi hill, on suburb of Suzhou city, Jiangsu province. The average slope is 25° to 32° - The deposit with brocken strata is formed by Maoshan sand rocks of Devonian System. Its structure is called anti-slope monoclinal one. It is a vein deposit , declined to east with a dip angle of 25° to 60° ,and with average thickness of 6 to 20m ( max.60m).The ores are loose and soft and easy to collapse with water. The footwall consisting of limestone contains fissures and karsts with preasure water, the hanging wall consisting of sand rocks contains fissure water mainly supplied by precipitate water.
