FT Series G is a long-haul lightwave transmission system which provides digital transmission at rates of 1.7 Gb/s and 417 Mb/s.Advanced maintenance features are provided economically by an integral Embedded Telemetry System.A major feature provided by the Embedded Telemetry System is the ability to monitor the health of all system regenerators in order to determine the location of line failures.Regenerator parameters are also used to indicatc performance degradation so that regenerators can be replaced before line failures occur.Other major features the system provides are DS3 performance monitoring,orderwire circuits,gathering of environmental alarms,and sending remote controls.Data is gathered at each line repeater station and transmitted to terminal stations for processing.Processed results are made available both locally through a craft display and remotely to an Operations Support Systems.These features are provided with an architecture of distributed microprocessors communicating through overhead bits in the transmission line.The first office application of the 1.7 Gb/s FT Series G System was in early 1987,with firstservice scheduled for the fourth quarter of 1987.
