For most existing methods, it is challenge to achieve high data rate communication with simple additional circuit for capacitive power transfer (CPT) system. In this digest, a pulse-based modulation approach based on a bidirectional DC/DC converter is proposed. By injecting the pulse current, which is generated by the bidirectional converter, into the primary side, the data is superposed on the power current. Thus, the data and power can be transferred to secondary side through same capacitive channel. To generated a current pulse which is short enough to allow for high-rate data transfer, the bidirectional converter operates in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) to reduce switching frequency. As a result, the data rate can be several times higher than the operation frequency.
