The CH3OH line frequencies obtained from the diagonalization of a theoretical Hamiltonian are affected by inaccuracies of the order of 10−3 ∼ 10−1 cm−1 or higher, the inaccuracy increasing with the value of the quantum numbers involved in the transition. The inaccuracy on lines involving vibrationally excited levels, like, for instance, the lasing lines, is usually higher than the inaccuracy on the absorption lines within the vibrational ground state.
