Digital modulation is increasingly used on line-of-sight microwave radio paths. During multipath fading on such paths, errors in digital transmission can occur as a result of intersymbol interference,caused by frequency-dependent variation of amplitude and group delay within the radio channel. Such variation is usually referred to as dispersion of amplitude and dispersion of group delay. This paper describes a Delay and Amplitude Recording System (DARS) implemented to make field measurements of amplitude dispersion and the associated dispersion of group delay. Measured results are presented from the first application of DARS at 6 GHz on a 23.3 mile path at Gainesville, Florida.
