PNEUMATIC GAS CHROMATOGRAPH SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED IN MONITORING ETHYLENE OXIDE STERILIZERS

Users of ethylene oxide sterilizers in such industries as chemical, pharmaceutical, and medical have been seeking better and more precise methods of monitoring, and, in turn, validating their sterilization cycles.A recently developed, totally pneumatic process gas chromatograph can continuously monitor both the ethylene oxide (sterilant) and the H_2O vapor peaks for processing and transmitting to a trend recorder.The output is transmitted in the form of two 3 to 15 psi signals. Samples are taken every 1.5 minutes, and the output range for the components may be defined either in units of mg/L or mol percent.The totally pneumatic nature of the analyzer system makes it inherently safe in proximity to volatile gases and thus desirable in terms of both installation and unattended operation.
