GPMS, a general purpose memory management system---user's memory---that is

GPMS is a keyword based information entry and retrieval system. The data consist of a collection of messages, where a message is an arbitrary quantum of free text. Users supply both keywords and message body. Keywords are hashed into an association file while messages, which receive unique chronological names, reside in a message file. A simple English-like query package is included.

GPMS has been used as a community information management system (advertisements, quotations, pleas, comments, descriptions, reminders, remedies, letters, warnings, jokes, etc.). It has also been used for literature research and quotation cataloging. Other possible uses include an APL news centre, a database for 'how' messages, source program storage, library inventory and control, etc.
