A LARGE SCALE INTEGRATED COMPUTER CONTROLLED PROCESS CHROMATOGRAPH SYSTEM

This paper describes the application of a digital computer for integrated control of 20 process chromatographs. The hardware system, software program and operator/computer interface are described. The system permits simultaneous use of thermal conductivity and high sensitivity ionization detectors, and data reduction by internal normalization or by reference to calibration standards. Information output is discussed, including data presentation by teletype, alarms and'conven-tional analog trend recorders for plant operator control, auxiliary information available (to the operator) on demand, information for maintenance, and information transfer (for further calculation) to a central computer. Application development requirements for a system of this type are also reviewed.
