Acute toxicity and accumulated toxicity of chlorine dioxide (ClO_2) and by-products of chlorite (ClO_2~-) and chlorate (ClO_3~-) in water on mice are studied by the method of Horn and accumulation coefficient. Sub-chronic toxicity of the mixture of ClO_2 and ClO_2~- and ClO_3~- in water acted on rat is studied through feeding test for 90 days, including statistical analysis of variance on body weight gaining、food utilization efficiency、index of blood and serum、liver (or kidney) to body weight ratio, and histopathological examination on liver and kidney. The results show that aqueous solution of ClO_2、NaClO_2 and NaClO_2 (with the concentration of 276.5mg/L, 200mg/L and 200mg/L respectively)and the mixed aqueous solution of ClO_2 with the concentration of 553 mg/L are actually non-poisonous, and non-cumulative aqueous solution as well. There isn't significant influence of ClO_2 mixed liquid on weight gaining and food utilization efficiency of rats (p > 0.05). No influence on blood index such as white blood count (WBC) and hemoglobin (Hb) either (p > 0.05). Examinations on alinine eransamminase (ALT)、total protein (TP)、albumins (ALB)、globe globulin (GLB) show that there isn't remarkably difference when marking comparison between male and female rats of contrasted group and high-dosage group (p > 0.05). By variance analysis on liver/weight (%) and kidney/weight (%) of rats of each test group and contrasted group, it shows no remarkable difference among these groups (p > 0.05). The results of histopathologic examination show that no liver and kidney pathological changes occurred among rats of test group and contrasted group.
