Abundant as water loads of Yangtse has, the PCOC concentrations expressed on a lipid base in the fishes from two river are quite similar except CP and HCB group, which indicating similar PCOC contamination level in both river. The different values for CP and HCB group compounds may caused by the PCP application in south of China to prevent Schistosomiasis. Biomagnification potential of DDT, PCB and PCDD/PCDF compounds through aquatic food web are higher than HCHs and CPs due to high lipophilicity and low eliminated rates in fish. As for the exposure risk, the exposure evaluation based on limited fish data implied no obvious health hazard for CHC consumption, while the PCDD/PCDF exposure risk of local resident through dietary food is potentially high (WHO/IPCS, 1989; Van Leeuven et al., 1998). Therefore, a following-up monitoring program for trace PCOCs fish of both rivers is recommended for consumer protection. Attention should be paid to the tagging experiment, source investigation and CP determination. Since some PCOCs incline to accumulate in sediment, bottom-dwelling animals should also be taken into account.
