ADN is an explosive and an oxidizer with extraordinary properties. It is chlorine free, leaves no toxic residues and can be considered as environmentally benign. Pure enough ADN burns without leaving any signature; it has a high burn rate and could be used both in composite propellants and in liquid monopropellants with high specific impulse. It has the potential of being an environmental friendly alternative to substances such as Ammonium Perchlorate and Hydrazine.Since ADN has been considered a potential replacement for Hydrazine in space applications there has been a growing interest for product with extremely high purity (99.999% with respect to non-volatile residues). Therefore, Eurenco Bofors AB (EuB) and EC APS AB have developed a new purification process for production of high purity ADN. This process has been scaled up, first to bench scale, then to pilot scale. High purity ADN is used as the main component in a liquid monopropellant named LMP-103S, used for satellite attitude control and which has been successfully space qualified on the PRISMA satellites .
