A limitation of on-the-job training provided to aircraft inspectors is the limited exposure to different defect types.rnCurrent research combines the advantages of virtual reality (VR) technology that includes exposure to a wide varietyrnof defects and the one-on-one tutoring approach of on-the-job training by implementing a collaborative virtualrntraining environment. In an immersive collaborative virtual environment (CVE), avatars are used to represent the coparticipants.rnUsing eye-tracking technology, we can provide trainees information of where the trainer is looking asrnvisual deictic reference (VDR). This study evaluates the effectiveness of a CVE for aircraft inspection training,rnproviding VDR slaved to the trainer’s gaze. Results show that the training was effective in improving inspectionrnperformance.
