Development of Digital Storage for Consumer Electronics

Digital storage in the home will grow enormously for commercial and non-commercial content. Digital storage hierarchies are developing for static and mobile consumer applications. Because the cost of storage is often a significant percentage of the total consumer product cost the storage device can be a significant agent in controlling the final price of the application. This may lead to the integration of consumer applications in digital storage devices. Besides reducing total consumer product cost, this could improve performance and speed time to market for new products. As storage devices and applications become wide-spread in and around the home there will be a need to create a virtualized home storage pool or utility that automatically backs up and manages all these storage products as well as protects, analyzes, organizes, tags and pre-positions content.
