In urban environments, the buildings are often modelled as knife-edges or more realistically, polygons. With abrupt changes of building profiles. diffraction and backscattering effects are important in this scenario. Several wide-angle parabolic equation (PE) methods have been used to calculate the diffraction or/and backscattering problem in built-up areas. However, no one has ever combined all the factors: diffraction, forward and backward reflections with angle-dependent impedance boundary conditions on the varying terrain or along the polygonal building. In this paper we formulate an iterative Fourier split-step PE method to achieve this.
