This paper proposes a new three-phase boost type power factor correction (PFC) circuit featuring high efficiency owing to further development on a conventional topology and its control. The current handled by the fast switching devices is substantially reduced because of the diverting effect of an extra dual boost stage that works at a lower switching rate. Integrate reset control is adopted to realize the unity input power factor. In addition to the reduced switching losses, this paper also illustrates the following characteristics of the proposed PFC system: (1) constant frequency operation of all switching devices, which is favored by passive filter design, (2) a simplified control scheme without the need of multipliers for current scaling, and (3) good response to maintain the input line current in phase with the corresponding voltage without low-frequency distortion. Simulation and laboratory tests verify the proposed circuit and control algorithm.
