Topological obstructions to simultaneous stabilization

The problem of constructing a single feedback controller in order to stabilize a given family of control systems is considered. Examples are used to illustrate the difference between the use of linear and nonlinear feedback, and the ramifications of the degree theoretic obstruction due to Zabrieko.
