摘要

Intel capital is investing more than US$15m in Malaysian telecommunications service provider Green Packet, giving it a 6.32 per cent stake. The two organisations will work together to roll out Malaysia's first nationwide WiMax network. Intel Capital has acquired bonds that it can convert to shares in either Green Packet or its subsidiary Packet One Networks (Malaysia), which has secured a 2.3GHz WiMax licence. Packet One will launch its WiMax service this month, initially covering the city of Kuala Lumpur and the major towns of Shah Alam, Seremban, Petaling Jaya and Klang, and extending later in the year to other parts of the country. Alcatel-Lucent was awarded the contract to build and manage the WiMax network. This year alone 600 towers will be constructed.
