Conventional defrost-mode fixes defrosting time-interval or defrosting starting temperature, but it isn’t a good defrosting method fit for all climates. A new defrost-mode called different-regions-defrost-mode selects optimal defrost-code for defrosting based on ambient air dry-bulb temperature. The influence of the different-regions-defrost-mode on an air-source heat pump chiller was investigated in this paper. The experiments for the new mode and the conventional mode were conducted on a nominal heating capacity 42kW modular air-source heat pump and discussed. The experiment results show that heating capacity could increased about 1.5kW at low temperature by adopting appropriate defrost-code, and the more serious frost is, the more short defrosting time-interval is, but not less than that of the old defrost-mode; the more light frost is, the longer defrosting time-interval is, even 2 times longer than that of the old defrost-mode.
