Lafarge''s Harleyville, SC plant was equipped with a 1970''s-vintage reverse air baghouse. Corrosion damage over the years, and air-flow limitations, resulting from capacity increase after tower modification, led Lafarge to a decision in 2003 to replace the baghouse with a new pulse-jet fabric filter. High cement demand forecasts dictated a very short kiln outage for tie-in of the new collector. The paper provides an overview of key issues and considerations that lead to successful installation and minimized loss of plant operating time. The scope of the review is focused on three areas that have most impact on eventual project configuration, i.e. 1) Decision to build the project and selection of alternatives; 2) Technology and performance considerations for new system; and 3) Construction and tie-in strategy for shortest possible downtime
