Iron & steel enterprises engender, as by-product, blast furnace gas in large quantities, which, by energy retrieval, may be utilized to cut down energy waste and alleviate environmental pollution. This paper introduces a gas turbine combined cycle cogenetation unit. The unit is the world's largest of its kind for burning pure blast furnace gas, and which is contributing a lot to Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. 's energy balance, efficacious utilization of blast furnace gas, reducing energy waste and solving the environment problem. It will also enhance the application and popularization of this advanced technique in Chinese iron and steel enterprises. The unit is composed of a GT11N2-LBTU type gas turbine, a gas compressor, a gear box, a triple pressure steam turbine, a triple pressure heat recovery steam generator, a generator, an exciter etc. It has a single-shaft layout, with the gas compressor directly driven by the unit. The steam turbine drives the unit for starting. The using steam supplied by the existing plant. The unit has simplified system and highly automatic level. The contractor of the whole unit is Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan with the GT11N2-LBTU gas turbine, the generator and the exciter collocated and supplied as one set by the former ABB Co. while the gas compressor was supplied by the SULZER Co. The rated output is 149.6MW, the maximal steam supply 180t/h, and the efficiency 45.52% for the unit. The paper, in addition, gives an account of the unit's commissioning and overhaul experiences.
