The injection line and main ring lattice designs for the University of Maryland Electron Ring have been studied numerically. Possible injection systems were designed using a fitting algorithm based on a set of generalized rms-envelope equations that include the effects of space charge and beam momentum dispersion. The beam dynamics of the injection into and through the periodical ring structure were also studied using a two-dimensional (2D) particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation. The main ring lattice was evaluated by tracking with higher order maps that included a linear space charge force. The results of these studies and a discussion of the range of validity of the models are presented.
