Thermally stimulated current study of crystalline benzene derivatives-trichloro- and dichloromethylbenzenes

Thermally stimulated current (TSPC and TSDC) have been measured with the pressed discs of 1,2,4-tr-chlorotrimethyIbenzene (1,2,4-TCTMB), 1,8-dichlorotetramethybenzene (1,3-DCTMB) and 1,2-dichlorotetramethylbenzene (1,2-DCTMB) between liquid nitrogen temperature and /spl sim/10/spl deg/C. These materials show a single broad peak that is tailing in the higher temperature range of peak. The peak temperature of these derivatives Tm at which maximum current occurred was found always at -137/spl deg/C, -145/spl deg/ and -154/spl deg/C, respectively, under various polarizing conditions with the constant heating rate 2.5/spl deg/C/min. The peak shape was broad compared with pentachlorotoluene, due to the mutual interaction of adjacent methyl groups. The polarization mechanism of these was discussed in relation with the crystal data.
