Measurement of the nonlinear response in a strongly pumped erbium doped amplifiers for all-optical switching

Measurements of the decay time of real-time gratings in highly doped erbium fiber and analysis of the nonlinear response are presented. For strong pumping conditions the response for a nonlinear optical switch can be 50 /spl mu/s.
