The simulation of formal management and technical reviews to increase quality in undergraduate software engineering projects

Formal reviews are accepted in the software development industry as a valuable control mechanism used by management and steering committees to gauge a project's progress, provide direction and improve the quality of the system being developed. The introduction of formal management and technical reviews to student software engineering projects at Edith Cowan University (ECU) has resulted in quality improvements in the product delivered and the process used as well as providing substantial educational benefits. The underlying model for the review mechanism has been based on the ISO's SPICE project.
