Nowadays, the transient energy function method for fast transient stability calculations to perform the dynamic security assessment of power systems is possible. This paper presents a second order sensitivity based BCU method with a network structure preserving model for power system transient stability analysis. The approach can obtain more accurate stability limits then when a linearized sensitivity expression and a simplified classical model are used. A detailed development of the analytical sensitivity procedure of the power system energy margin is presented. The technique is tested on the 6-machine 22-bus Chinese EPRI test system and the 16-machine 60-bus East China Reduced Network. A good assessment of these power systems' stability limits is obtained.
