Locally-pumped repeatered and remotely-pumped repeaterless 1.55 /spl mu/m CATV video lightwave systems over a 127-km standard single-mode fiber

We investigate the 1.55-/spl mu/m CATV lightwave systems using 1480-nm locally- and remotely-pumped amplified techniques for the first time. Satisfactory performances are achieved for locally-pumped system over a 127-km standard fiber. System design of the remotely-pumped repeaterless system for inter-islands and island-hopping are also discussed.
