The main environmental problems in liao river basin and countermeasures

The Liao River is a confluence of the West Liao River and the East Liao River in Changtu County of Liaoning Province, and discharges into the Bohai Sea in Panjin. The West Laio River which rise in Hebei Province flows through the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Jilin Province. The East Liao River which rises in Jilin Province flows through Jilin and Liaoning Provinces. The Daliao River is confluence of the Hun River which reises in Qingyuan County of Liaoning Province and Taizi River which rises in Xinbin County of Liaoning Province, and discharges into the Bohai Sea in Yingkou. The Liao River Basin includes 65 cities and couties the population of this region is 30 million. Water resources are in short supply there, with per capita consumption one fifth of the national average, agriculatural water use is one eighth. The pollution of the Liao and Daliao River Systems is very severe and water quality almost realches Standard V or worse and groundwater along the rivers is badly polluted. The soil is polluted in sewaage irrgation areas and the residual toxicity of crops for neavy metal content does not comply with the national standard. This damages the health of the people. The Environment is deterioation. Sewage in the Liao River distinctly affects the seawater quality in Liaodong Gulf of the Bohai Sea.
