An implementation of DSM-CC user-to-network protocol in a DAVIC VOD system: the IMPRESS

The IMPRESS (Interactive multimedia exPRESS) system is a DAVIC (Digital Audio-Visual Council) compliant service platform for providing users with interactive multimedia services such as movie on demand and home shopping. The IMPRESS system includes various component systems such as STU (set top unit), delivery network, SRM (session and resource manager), application server, and video pump. For the purpose of managing sessions and resources in the IMPRESS system, we have implemented DSM-CC UN (Digital Storage Media Command and Control user-to-network) protocol. We describe the architecture of the IMPRESS system and the implemented DSM-CC UN session control sequences and resources.
