VHF radio transponder for use in vessel traffic services and for ship-to-ship purposes

The article describes the technical characteristics recommended by the ITU for a VHF radio transponder using digital selective calling techniques for VTS and ship-to-ship purposes and explains the studies which resulted in the detailed proposals being made to the ITU.
