Acquisition and analysis of the impedance cardiogram (ICG) in the detection of ventricular arrhythmias

Discusses the use of the impedance cardiogram (ICG) obtained from a two electrode system in comparison with the standard 4 electrode configuration. Improved sensitivity and specificity when the ICG is synchronised with the R wave component of the ECG suggests that it can be a valuable discriminating factor in detecting 'shockable' ventricular arrhythmias especially ventricular tachycardia.
