This paper discusses the implementation of a control strategy on a multistage countercurrent brown stock washing system. The approach taken includes three parts: Dynamic simulation of the system, design of a control strategy, and the implementation at the pulp mill. Each of these parts is covered in details from an industrial point of view and with special attention given to fundamental control issues such as antiwindup and bumpless transfer arrangements. These issues were found to be essential for the successful operation of the system.
