The authors consider that-mainly for turbojet aircraft-any engine-aircraft body couple can give rise to a particular 'signature' in the spectral response (jet engine modulation). To validate this phenomenon from a quantitative point of view, data are obtained from experimental measurement on ATC radar systems relative to different kinds of aircraft in various geometrical and kinetic conditions. Some results of analysis are shown. Typical limitative aspects of ATC systems-mainly the intrinsic undersampling due to low sweep frequency-and the strategies developed to overcome these problems are discussed.
