A novel formulation for solving electromagnetic scattering by bodies of revolution is presented. The method is accurate and robust enough to handle objects with complex shapes and material properties including objects having sharp edges, curved surfaces, and high aspect ratios. These objects may include perfect conductors, lossy dielectric or magnetic materials, and a multilayered coating which can be tapered in thickness. The formulation avoids the use of the coupled azimuthal projections and, instead, solves for all three components of either the electric or magnetic field using a node-based finite-element approach. Results are presented for two examples.
