A method for the fast simulation of bulk wave second-order effects in SAW (surface acoustic wave) devices is described. It is shown that the bulk wave contribution to the total frequency response of a device can be computed from the real part of its surface wave frequency response. Similarly, the bulk wave input admittances can be found from the surface wave input conductances of the interdigital transducers. Being based on the electroacoustic Green's function for a piezoelectric halfspace with unmetallized surface, the analysis takes the full spectrum of nonreflected bulk waves into account.
