Current trends indicate that corporate management is rapidly becoming aware that the information stored in the computer system is really a corporate asset and not just data. This placed an increased importance and responsibility on the information services department, and with this increased importance and responsibility comes increased visibility. It is emphasized that it is incumbent upon data processing professionals to change the way they are perceived and to communicate more effectively with management and the user community in terms that are important to the latter, not to the data processing professionals themselves.
