A mathematical model has been formulated to investigate the performance of the slotted ALOHA random access channel with capture effect in a mobile radio communication environment. The radio channel is characterised by the path loss, Rayleigh fading and log-normal 'shadowing'. With capture effect, results indicate that the maximal attainable throughput is increased and the risk of instability is reduced as compared with well-known analysis of pure slotted ALOHA.
