The authors present a digital simulation of a power system that includes transformers operating at high frequency. The simulation is conducted using modular state variable models and the state transition matrix. By using a modular approach, each component is modeled separately as a two-port network using the input voltages to each component as independent variables. A high-frequency, lumped-parameter model of a power transformer is presented. The model is used to develop a third-order state variable description of the device that is coupled to state variable models of a resonant converter and resistive-inductive load. Digital simulations of the transformer and system are presented and compared to results from SPICE2 and EMTP.
