Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains are gramnegative bacteria that can cause serous chronic infections. These strains have gained antibiotic resistance over time due to misuse of antibiotics. Since bactericide resistance to antibiotics makes treatment difficult, this has led to the research for new treatment methods. One of these new methods is Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). PDT is photoinactivation of microorganisms by reactive oxygen species that are produced by a light-activated and light-sensitive substance with a light source at certain wavelength. In this study, 655 nm laser light source with diode pump working at maximum 2 Watt power and chlorine e6 (Ce6) at different doses were used as light sensitive substance. The aim of this study was to increase the effect of antibacterial photodynamic therapy on resistant gram-negative bacteria by using Potassium Iodide (KI) salt synergistically. This application resulted in quite effective mortality rates on antibiotic resistant P. aeruginosa strain.
