Abstract: 3D imaging offers the opportunity to gather new kindsof information for diagnosis and therapy. In order toaccess this information efficiently we need a model forthe integration of knowledge which is extracted fromthe images. In this paper we present such a model forthe description of image information as well as resultsof image analysis and manipulation. The purpose of themodel is its use in computer assisted treatmentplanning. Therefore, we introduce a volumerepresentation based on discrete 3D space to map themodel on the computer. We call this representation anextended cell enumeration (XCE) representation. It isan extension of the well-known cell enumeration (CE)representation where graph structures are added torepresent high-level knowledge together with the cellinformation. We show how to transfer information intothis representation and how to access the representedinformation. We give examples of applications in theplanning of stereotaxy and plastic surgery. !
