Powder technology has progressed conspicuously in recent years, and whereas the mechanical properties of powder and bulk solids used to be ascertained visually through experience and displayed qualitatively in the past, today these properties have come to be displayed explicitly and quantitatively. Accordingly, as shall be pointed out later under the item of utilization, powder bed testers are being utilized for process designing or for rationalization of various kinds of unit operations, also for trouble prevention. They are also being utilized even for the quality control of powder and bulk solids as well as for research and development. The powder bed tester described here is a measurement instrument designed specifically for these purposes.
