Ferro-nickel nuggets were obtained from the pellets made of laterite nickel ore, reductant and fluxrnin high temperature. Softening properties of laterite nickel ore was studied, result showed that compositernpellets would have a lower melting point when the addition amount of CaO was 10%. The microstructurernand composition of pellets obtained under different reaction conditions were analyzed by chemical analysis,rnX-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in order to research the process andrnmechanism of producing ferro-nickel nuggets. Ferro-nickel nuggets could be obtained in the lowest reactionrntemperature of 1350℃, .Main components of which were Fe and Ni. Grades of Fe and Ni in nuggets werernrespectively 87.50% and 9.40%, while recoveries were 97.91% and 96.56%. Little amount of C and S wasrnindwelled in the ferro-nickel nuggets. Fe and Ni existed in the form of alloy, C dissolved in the alloy and S existed in the form of sulfide inclusion.
