Fabrication of cost-effective mullite from rice hulls

A new route for the fabrication of mullite ceramic at a low temperature (1300℃, inrncomparison to the conventional synthesis temperature of 1500℃ ) was developed in thisrnstudy. The feasibility of using rice hull and alumina as major raw material feedstocksrnprovides a superior cost-effective approach for commercial production of mullite. Thernsintering and soaking mechanisms were investigated, including the low sinteringrntemperature. The phase transition during the development of the mullite ceramic wasrncharacterized by XRD and the morphology was observed by SEM.
