There have been a number of composite processes developed that permit the continuous processing of "lineals" with changes to either cross-sectional shape with constant volume or with a volume change. This technology thrust started with Brandt Goldsworthy's Pulforming~TM process allowing both a cross-sectional and volume change for hammer handles, and subsequently for leaf springs, to Joe Sumerak's patented Selective Interval Pulshaping~TM process which presently allows the process operator to pultrude constant cross-sectional profiles then interrupt the process to mold a shape having a different cross-sectional shape but the same volume. While both of these processes offer the pultruder intermittent shape options not possible before, there has been little high volume commercial success to date.
