HDR duplex stainless steel that has excellent corrosion resistance to seawater was developed; It was demonstrated that its resistance to high velocity flowing seawater corrosion and sand particle entrained seawater erosion is superior to that of Cu and Cu-Ni alloys significantly. Its susceptibility to pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion was investigated by method of ferric chloride corrosion test. The potential-time curve of corroding in seawater immersion test was measured. Potentiodynamic and potentiostatic techniques were applied to obtain electrochemical parameters of pitting and crevice corrosion. The results show that HDR duplex stainless steel has good resistance to localized corrosion and is suitable for seawater tubes.
