Spatial knowledge is a key component of petroleum exploration and production objects. Fromrnthe regional delineation of fields and prospects, through the legal definition of lease outlines,rnvia the geotechnical surveying processes to the detailed exploitation of reservoirs, and on tornthe management and maintenance of surface infrastructure, a precise knowledge of therncomplete shape and location is critical.rnThis paper discusses how practical EP spatial data management is often split into tworncultures, and describes how the latest generation of spatial database technology can bridge therndiffering approaches to best leverage existing technology investments.
